Description

The brain is the most complex organ in the human body and is what makes us unique amongst all living organisms on earth- it is what makes us human. It is an amazing organ that allows us to communicate, imagine and problem solve.

Our brain is soft, retaining its shape with the support of the human skull. One of the challenges when modeling the brain was to produce a realistic organic model. This was achieved by using Autodesk Mudbox 2014. This was my first time using this tool, it was wonderful for creating an organic look and modeling the gyri and sulci.

Process Work

I started with orthographic pencil sketches before modeling a basic shape in Autodesk Maya 2014. I then UV mapped my model and did the majority of the modeling in Autodesk Mudbox 2014. After retopologizing my model to have a smooth mesh, I brought it back to Autodesk Maya 2014 to light and render my model. Final compositing was completed in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe After Effects CS6.
